By the Light of a Candle

People, Things, and Life

The iridescent glow of a candle
in the middle of the night.
From afar, it is silent and beautiful,
yet, dim.
Its light, when seen by those passing through
is given no thought.
Seeing only an ordinary candle
as ordinary people would.
From a distance, it’s impossible for them to know.
For they can only see a faint glimmer.
But to those near,
they know something different.
The warmth and light it provides.
Its dancing flame,
flickering and swaying with the beat of the air.
Its crackling and calming sounds.
They admire and appreciate it.
Because they know its true form.
But those who never cared
enough to get close,
will never know.
